When Liposuction is the Answer

surgery.jpgI’ve never been a fan of liposuction. I’ve always thought that it’s the equivalent to a get-rich-quick scheme. You don’t change your diet, do more exercise, or make any lifestyle changes. So how can liposuction be the answer? It appears it can if my friend Nadine (name changed) is any indication.

Nadine is about 5′7″ 145 lbs if I had to guess. In talking with her, she always thinks she’s over-weight. I’ve watched her go through extreme diets where she limited herself to a nutrition bar during the day and a small grilled chicken breast at night. It would drop her weight never really give her the results she was looking for. Her genetics are such that she natural stores all her visible fat below the waist-line. During these extreme diets, it would reduce that fat a little bit, but the bigger result was that her ribs would start to show. Clearly the extreme diet (as always) was not the right solution.

Nadine then tried hours at a time on an elliptical trainer. The hope was that she could target those problem areas. However, it produced the same result, a stomach with no fat and thighs with excess fat. One day we were talking about her problem over lunch. I said that I had read that the body only has so many fat cells and it’s their size that we can control. (Somebody should fact check that.) Using that theory, I posited that perhaps she has more fat cells below the waist than normal. If that’s the truth and she could remove them, she’d, in theory, notice a much better result from her diet and exercise. After consulting with a couple of doctors the idea of liposuction seemed to make sense. Two months ago, Nadine took the plunge and went for it.

Today with the healing and swelling mostly gone, the results are simply remarkable. It’s almost comical to watch her try on her old pants now. She’s a lot happier now and you can see it in her step everyday. This whole story has changed my impression of liposuction. I now believe it can be the answer for some extreme cases with those “problem areas.”

Wow, never heard anyone talk about their results before. It’s always treated like, “Why, no, I never had liposuction. Why do you ask?” On TV, the people seem to look a little odd-shaped. But if Nadine is happy - Cheers!
