One Hundred Pushups (Week 1, Day 2) |

I just finished day 2 of my one hundred pushup plan. As soon as I started, I realized it was going to be difficult. I was still a little sore from day one.
Nonetheless, I gave it a shot. I finished the 5 sets of 12, 12, 10, 10 and 15 push-ups. That last set where you are supposed to do as many as you can is a killer. I didn’t think I’d get past ten, but I was able to keep it going once I got my breathing right.
As soon as I finished I looked at the chart to Friday’s Day 3. I didn’t notice it before, but I was supposed to wait 90 second today between each set. I thought it was a standard 60 second on all days. Perhaps that’s why I thought this was a little extra tough.
Day 3 has a killer 15+ 5th set… hopefully it won’t be that bad now that I know about the increased time in between sets.

I would definitely be sore - for days! No way I could keep up the pace of this push-up challenge, but I admire you, and everyone else for going for it!

I am sorry, but it is not good to overdo it.
If you are sore, you have to scale your routine down and let your body to adjust.
Our body is a fine instrument and it can self-repair and adopt, but you can’t be rough, pushy and too demanding on it, otherwise it can break down. Once some fine bio-chemical mechanisms or even tissues are broken, the body will attempt to repair itself but it takes greater effort to repair it. Why break it in the first place? What’s the rush? Go slow and steady and you will get there faster and without any unnecessary issues.
How do I know that? I have an MD and I devoted long, long, long hours of research on body physiology because my husband has Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy. Body damage and repair is one of my deep interests and I read on the topic every week if not every other day.
Please do push-ups and every other physical activities, but listen to the pain signals. It is not healthy at all to put your body into pain state over and over. It is a trauma and you should avoid any trauma all the time.
All traumas, even micro-traumas get “recorded” and at first they might seems like get repaired, but we will never know for sure.
Some small bio-chemical break downs might stay hidden (without any symptoms for years) in your system and one day when the threshold is reached you will get a full blown health disaster.
So pain is not always gain, in fact I read it as a warning signal. Consider yourself warned.

I was a good sore…. not a bad sore. I was sore from a little too much lactic acid in my muscles.
exercising the muscles flushes the old lactic acid from them and improves the muscle.
My sore was not an unhealthy sore, but one that resulted because of my muscles inexperience with the strength and motion required of it to perform the pushups…
I am much better for having worked out.
