Well, you want to look at trends over time and ignore individual results in your body stats section. I don't check my body fat percentage regularly, as I don't have equipment for a quick and easy answer and I'm too lazy to do measurements and math. I do weigh myself daily, though, and I try to keep myself under the same conditions each day. First thing in the morning, no clothes or just underwear, after I've emptied the bladder, before I've eaten anything or done much in the way of moving around. If one day is out of whack, I don't worry about it. If a lot of days are out of whack, I try to decide if I'm getting sick or not. Otherwise, I just follow the trend lines to see if I am gaining or losing. Since I started tracking, my weight has done a lot less swinging up and down and generally stays within a couple of pounds. I try to maintain usually rather than lose or gain, so that is a good thing.

One question that I have on the body fat calculators is how much does your water weight come into effect? If you measure yourself, and then drink 40 ounces of water over the next half hour or so and measure yourself again, will the result be the same? If not, then that would by guess for the discrepancy in body fat despite the (slight) loss in weight.

I did get measured last November for body fat. It was right where I thought it would be: 5.5%. About half that of my friend that I was running the marathon with.
