Ummm Mobius, each bottle is not obviously not brought one by one - hence the cost of transportation is distributed amongst many, many bottles of water. If you looked at the cost of the bottle of Fiji water, you'd realize that clearly the bottle of water does reflect that cost. If you believe the water doesn't come from there, simply argue with the company - they are the ones making the claim.

Mobius the problem with your 747/bicycle argument is that you are comparing "per kilometer." I don't care how efficient the 747 may be, it has far to many kilometers to make up - coming from around the world. In short, the mode or efficiency of the transport is not in question - it's always going to be better to get things locally than from the other side of the world.

I call your bull. [Editor: watch the language]

We live in a world of economics. If it took the use of "gallons and gallons of oil" to move a bottle of water from one side of the world to the other, then the price of that bottle of water would include the price of "gallons and gallons" of oil.

Which clearly, they do not.

This completely debunks your stupid theory, and puts the lie to all such ridiculous assertions.

See, if you ever studied transportation in terms of calories expended per kilogram carried per klilometer travelled, you'd know that at the very top of the list is a man on a racing bicycle - but you'd also know that VERY CLOSELY behind that man is a fully laden 747. Yeah - I know - you think it's bull. But the 747 is the most efficient form of transport in the world baring bicycles with fit riders.

Do the research.

What the issue is, is that Americans are stupid, ignorant, paranoid morons with no ability to distinguish fact from fiction, and are gullible to the point of insanity. Everyone knows tap water is (in many cases) superior to bottles water, and double blind experiments years ago showed most people preferred NYC tap over Evian!
