Truly great arms don't come if you don't have the upper back strength to stabilize large loads in the mid-range part of a curl.

Build your upper back with chins and body-weight rows and your scapula becomes stronger and stable enough to handle big weights on your curls.

But then again, who wants to do chins when they can do machine bicep curls

Weighted chins are the best bicep exercise. Your palms should be facing you and your hands should be about 12 inches apart. I GUARANTEE that once you can do a set of 10 chins with a 45 lb. plate hanging from your waist you'll be happy with your bicep development.

As for triceps--can you say weighted dips?

Having without a dumb bell, I only make use of a fully filled 1.5 lit water bottle. I use it to focus on my biceps and triceps, only 30 times each. At times, I swim and the butterfly stroke especially helps toning the shoulders and arm muscles. I also play a lil of tennis and squash not particularly for this purpose but for the fun of it and the satisfaction from the resulted sweat.

curls are for girls. I use compound movements right now, they work my arms plenty!

bench, shoulder press, lat pulldown, dumbbell rows, etc, etc. I don't do specific tricep or bicep isolation exercises at the moment.
