“When Things Get Back On Schedule…” |

When it comes to my diet, that’s what I’ve been telling myself lately. “There is just too much going on this week” is another favorite. These past two weeks were a perfect example. The Red Sox where making their championship run. As a displaced Red Sox fan, I was meeting up with some other Red Sox fans in San Francisco at local bars to watch the games. Bar food and beer does not equal a healthy lifestyle. Sure there are ways to be healthy if you try, but it was “the Red Sox in a World Series” - a special occasion if there ever was one, right?
Here’s the problem… next week we have another “special occasion” as my wife and I head on our honeymoon. We’ll get back from that mid-November where it’s not too far until Thanksgiving. Then the holiday parties start… You get the idea - there’s always something going on.
On the plus side, I’ve been getting some solid exercise in. Over the last week, I’ve gotten to the gym or pool every day. Unfortunately doing half the work isn’t going to lead to any improvements in my health. At the best, I will just stay in place eating like I have been.

You hit the nail on the head - there is always something going on. If it’s not baseball, it’s Halloween, or Christmas, or the first night of a movie you’ve been waiting to see, or an old friend coming in to town….we really have to be clear about our goals and commit to a healthy lifestyle, and be honest with ourselves about whether we are using excuses or not (hey, the same goes for me, too!
).
You really can stick to your healthy lifestyle, and the more you do it during all of those “special times”, the more you will be able to see that you can be successful. Focus on the fun at the event, not the food.

Everything in moderation my friend. There is always going to be something (for me it’s football). So long as you still maintain a decent exercise program, the occasional slip isn’t so bad.

If you’re following New York sports at least you won’t be distracted by annoying things like playoff runs and championships.
