Time to Step Up My Fitness Plan

I may have mentioned on my other site, Lazy Man and Money, but I was on “vacation” last week getting married. I put “vacation” in quotes because neither my new wife or I remember working so hard. Between working hard to pull off an big event and supposedly being on “vacation”, we had a tendency to over-eat each day. It’s really difficult while you are on the road and can’t cook a healthy meal or go to the gym.

For the first couple days of the trip, I was feeling normal - there was nothing unusual. Then I hit the third day. After another big meal, I couldn’t fall asleep. I tend to sleep on my stomach a bit, but with it so full of food (and fat build-up from the previous gorgings), it was physically painful for me to sleep.

In the past, my reason for being healthy was largely cosmetic. I was trying to attract the females. I feel a change of priorities coming in my life. I now need to start being healthy for the right reasons - to feel better and live longer. I’m going to have to start with the basics… eat healthier and exercise. I’m nervous about the exercise, I’ve got so much going on in my life right now that I’m not sure where and how I’m going to fit it in.

Congratulations on getting married. I am about a month away from my first anniversary, and I can still remember exactly what you are talking about quite clearly!

Here’s another reason to get yourself in shape, and is particularly important now that you are married: The sex is way better!

    First, congratulations on getting married!

Before I got married I lost 40 pounds to get down to 175. 15 years later I was up to 325. It wasn’t until another 7 years passed until I finally did something about it. Do yourself and your new bride a favor and don’t follow my example. You’ll both be better off in the long run.

Here’s to a long, healthy life together for the both of you!

Get up an hour or so earlier and work out then. I’m a busy person too and find my evenings and weekends eaten up by working late, shopping/cooking/eating, social events, gardening, attending to reading and other hobbies, blah blah blah. After a few aborted attempts at working out daily I switched to mornings. I haven’t looked back - in addition to actually having the time, gyms are often less busy in the morning, it feels great to be out at 5:30 before it gets too hot, and I find it improves my day at work too.

(And welcome to the “married” club, I joined in January and it’s great!)
