Food of the Week: Low Carb, High Fiber Tortillas

Comment First

I’ve made the low carb, high fiber tortilla a staple of my diet. There’s a large difference between various types of tortillas. You can large ones that are over 200 calories, most of them from carbs. I stay away from those and look for low carb ones. The supermarkets in northern California carry La Tortilla Factory’s Low Carb Tortillas which are exactly what I was looking for.

When you look at the nutritional label of those tortillas, it’s not too hard to see what I love about them. At only 50 calories, it’s not going to tip the scales. With 6 grams of protein and 7 grams of fiber, it’s very healthy. The net carbs, for those on a low carb diet, weigh in at just 3 grams. There are 0 grams of sugar. While there are two grams of fat, there are no saturated or trans fats - you are just getting mostly the good fats. The tortillas are not a significant source of vitamins.

It’s pretty rare that my fiancée and I keep bread in the home anymore. We use these tortillas as wraps and feel healthier because of the decision.
