“Butter Makes Everything Better?” |
My in-laws have been visiting us for the last week. We try to make them feel at home however we can. For my mother-in-law that involves watching the Food Network. We don’t typically watch it, probably at least a little bit in fear that it would encourage us to eat more than we should.
Last night we were watching when there was a cartoon commercial with a cartoon Paula Deen. (She’s one of the cooks that has a show on the channel.) In the commercial she replaces the carrot from a snowman with a stick of butter, exclaiming, “Butter makes everything better.” I thought this was a curious message to send, but figured I’d sleep on it for a bit. Today, I’m doing a little more research and found these three articles about Paula Deen trying to kill us.
If you don’t think this concerning check out this YouTube clip. This is what we are teaching our children:

Deep-fried butter balls is one thing, but ever work in a restaurant? If you saw how much butter goes in the average restaurant dish (including ethnic foods) you’d never eat out again. Plenty of chefs would agree that butter makes everything taste better.

I think the question is - better than what? Certainly better than shortening or trans fat… But anything in excess is bad, regardless of what it’s serving as a substitute for!

My wife loves Paula Deen, but I agree that her foods, along with a lot of the chefs on Food Network (including Emeril) make a ton of unhealthy foods, for obvious reasons.
Healthy food just doesn’t taste as good as regular food.
