I’d like to introduce you to Tricia’s new site, Blogging Away Fat. I first ran across Tricia in the personal finance blogging world. I had a few questions about Lazy Man and Money and she stepped up, gave me some advince, and took me under her wing. Lazy Man and Money was moderately successful enough for me to start this site.

Blogging Away Fat is pretty addictive, so set aside a few minutes and go there. Better yet, subscribe to her feed.

I’m knocking on a big old piece of wood as I type this, but I’ve been relatively very healthy my whole life. My biggest claim to fame along those lines is that I’ve never broken a bone, by accident. When I was a teen I had a spreader put into the roof of my mouth that you crank every day. It slowly breaks the bone and when it heals it’s stronger (or so they say) and, more importantly, fixes a narrow roof of the mouth. Not breaking a bone is significant considering that I’ve been hit by car crossing the street (it switched lanes not seeing that I was crossing and hit me).

Here are some current facts about me and my health:

Physical dimensions: I’m 5’9″, 171.5 pounds, and between 17.3-21% body fat depending on which body fat measurement device you believe. My Tanita bathroom scale reads 21% while my Omron handheld reads 17.3%. I will take the average of those two for purposes of determining goals. That means that my body fat percentage would be about 19.15%. The Omron reports that my body mass index is 25.5, a little higher than I expected it would be.

Diet: I get free lunch from rotating nearby restaurants at work (one of several really nice perks). I also get free dinner when I stay late enough. I often choose to not stay late enough with the exception of when my fiancee is out of town on business. On those nights, I don’t mind staying in and getting more work done. All the rest of the meals, I strive for a good balance with an emphasis on lean protein and limiting carbohydrates where I can.

Exercise Habits: In the past, I’ve had stretches of months where I’ve gone to the gym and worked out 5-6 times a week. However, for the last 7 months or so, I have been lucky if I go one day a week. Part of that is my work schedule. Working for a small start-up doesn’t afford a lot of free time. Another part is my blogging. This website and Lazy Man and Money don’t write themselves. Fortunately, authoring Lazy Man and Money forces me to concentrate on personal finance. I’m expecting that Lazy Man and Health will do the same, but force me to be healthier.

Qualifications: More or less none. I had read cover to cover every issue of Men’s Health for some 10 years. I am quite familiar with BodyBuilding.com. I have finished 3/4s of Ray Kurzweil’s Fantastic Voyage: Live Long Enough to Live Forever a must read for anyone concerned with his/her own health. Why only 3/4s? I don’t like to read books, but prefer websites and magazines. Perhaps it’s a form of ADD I have.

Welcome to Lazy Man and Health. Lazy Man and Health will cover topics such as exercise, diet, nutrition, weight loss, muscle gain, supplementation, and fitness. In addition, I’ll share with you my personal experiences of health, plans and goals. You’ll read about my acheivements and disappointments. I’ll spend some time covering new health news and break-throughs. I’ll cover what I read in health magazines and discuss the psychology behind making good health decisions.

For full disclosure I’m not in the health profession at all. What this means is that while I hope my advice into consideration, you should double check with a doctor, trainer, before following through on anything you read here. On the other hand, I have the advantage of being an Average Joe. If I can make a goal, there should be no reason why you can’t. If I fail and learn a lesson in the process, you can avoid my mistakes.

You may already be familiar with my other website, Lazy Man and Money. The focus of that website is to discuss another interest of mine, personal finance. At times, you’ll see where these sites collide and I have to choose between saving money and being healthy. Those may turn out to be some of the most interesting posts.

I hope you stick around for awhile (or even subscribe to my feed).
