Beer is a Healthy Drink?

beer.jpgThere’s a lot of research about beer and a fair amount of it seems to point towards it being a healthy drink - as long as it isn’t abused. In fact, there is a study saying that it has the same benefits as red wine - specifically a bunch of antioxidants. Some even say that beer is better than milk. I’m not sure if I really agree with that, but I drink fat-free milk.

If that doesn’t convince you about the research that suggests beer has the following benefits:

If that doesn’t convince you, the great Benjamin Franklin once said, “Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.” There’s some scientific proof that being happy aids your health. That might be reason enough to have an occasional beer.

Well, I’ve been an unapologetic Guinness drinker all of my adult life (and too many years before 18 too), and I’d also guess that stress release at the pub, time with friends at barbecues and drowning sorrows associated with a certain underachieving their-passports-should-be-cancelled national rugby soc-called team are good for the health too.

Not that I was in need of a reason to drink beer, but I’ll lift my glass to that!

Amen to that. I love Guinness, Kirin, Kilian Red, Amstel Light…

Am I overreacting if I have a problem with my boyfriend needing to drink six beers in one night while watching sports on a regular basis?

  7. Lazy Man Says:

I would argue that it isn’t very healthy. Then again, I know people who do all sorts of unhealthy things - including myself.

I would have a talk with him and at least discuss limiting the “regularity” of the drinking.

Like all things, IN MODERATION folks. And in some cases, like mine, I used to drink lots of beer, it was a preferred beverage of mine, yet as I got older, the abdominal pain it caused me increased. Eventually come to find out, I am gluten intolerant. (wheat, barley, rye) You boys farting your arses off on the couch while watching sports drinking all those beers are probably also gluten intolerant. A higher percentage of people are lactose intolerant (milk) than gluten intolerant (beer), yet for me, milk soothes my stomach. So… each person is very different. One thing is not healthy for everyone. You have to do what feels right for your body.

Love the beer! I’ll have a couple per week. Guinness is always a nice drink. :)
